Let’s Use SOAP Reflection to Go DEEPER!! :)

Soap-Bible-Study 12027541_10154040828845715_5208540663177131980_n

This week we have been focusing on a very powerful verse from the book of Matthew.

It is now time for us to reflect even deeper on this verse and turn our revelations into a prayer.

The Bible is God’s LIVING WORD  🙂

What is our Heavenly Father trying to tell YOU this week through this scripture?

I challenge you to take a few minutes to write your own SOAP reflection on the amazing truth found in Matthew 19:26:

Matthew 19:26 New King James Version (NKJV)

26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

With God ALL things REALLY are possible!

Our Heavenly Father LOVES us so very much!

I pray that each of us today will feel His peace and LOVE through this verse  🙂

I Know God Will ~

Waiting For You Lord ~ ~ CHRISTian poetry by deborah ann ~

I know God can,
I believe He will
so I will wait . . .
and I’ll be still.

I know He’s able,
so I will trust
for Him to do
what He must.

It won’t do me,
one bit of good
to fear or doubt
as I once would.

For I have learned,
to sit and wait . . .
is better than taking
Satan’s worry bait.

I know God will,
I believe He can
so I’ll just leave . . .
this too, in His hand.

for my expectation is from him.”

Matthew 19:26 New King James Version (NKJV)

26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.

____________________________________________________________________________

History Behind This Verse:

Jesus was speaking to His disciples in this verse.  They had been asking Him questions about right and wrong and trying to figure out how to be GOOD enough to enter Heaven.  After telling His disciples many things about right and wrong, divorce, celibacy, and the likes, a rich young ruler came to Jesus and tried to prove his ability to earn Heaven through his own “goodness”….

Let’s read a few verses which precede verse 29.

16 Now behold, one came and said to Him, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?”

17 So He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

18 He said to Him, “Which ones?”

Jesus said, “‘You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness,’ 19 ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

20 The young man said to Him, “All these things I have kept from my youth. What do I still lack?”

21 Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”

22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

——————————–

NOW back to our verse:

23 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Assuredly, I say to you that it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

25 When His disciples heard it, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?”

26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

The first half of this verse is referring to our salvation, which is the ULTIMATE GOAL for all of us!!! It is impossible for any human being to live a life blameless enough to enter Heaven on their own merit.  We are all sinners!  No matter how hard we try, we all sin on a daily basis! It is impossible for us to obtain eternal life on our own terms, but with God THIS possible!!! The only way that we can enter Heaven is by acknowledging and accepting our savior, Jesus! It is only when we are covered by the blood of Jesus that we are worthy.  We must understand and accept the fact that the gates of Heaven will only be open to us through God’s GOODNESS!!!

Connection To Us

Notice this verse reads:  With God all things ARE POSSIBLE, not all things are GUARANTEED!!

We must always remember that God is not our personal magic genie!  He will not give us things simply by us asking for them.

A few differences between our God and a magic genie are:

With God-  LOVE is FACTORED IN

With God-  He knows our true needs

With God–  Ultimate WISDOM is calculated into the decision

It is easy for us to get upset and question God when we do not get our prayers answered the exact way that we are asking.  If you think about it, this is kind of silly on our part!  We have the ruler of the universe deciding what to give us and what we really need- we should be able to trust Him.  He KNOWS ALL, yet we get upset and stomp our feet when He applies His knowledge.  Our Heavenly Father knows what our lives will look like both if He grants us our prayer request and if He does not.  He makes EVERY decision out of LOVE!

If this verse read:  With God all things are guaranteed……

Our lives would be a hot mess!!

Without God applying His love and guidance into our lives, we would be like the toddler at the toy store.  We would spend all of our time going from one toy to the next, constantly opening the boxes and then throwing the toy down- never being truly satisfied.  We would ALWAYS be looking for the next THING to fill us!!!!

With God, He KNOWS what will both FILL us and SATISFY us!  We must trust HIM!!!  He knows that the closer we are to Him, the more full, complete, and satisfied we will be.  He is not going to give us any THING (or person) which will lead us away from Him!!

***  on a side note:  I know sometimes God chooses to not step in to heal a sick or dying loved one.  This is SO painful and hard to understand. I do not know why this happens.  I do know that God LOVES both the person who is ill and their family members VERY much!!!  He looks at the futures of all involved and uses both His wisdom and LOVE to make EVERY decision.  For whatever reason He may choose to not heal the inflicted person.  This is extremely heartbreaking for us!

I  am praying for you if this is your present story. I pray that God will reveal HIS LOVE to you in a very NEW and POWERFUL way today!  I pray that He can guide you to having peace with His decision.  He TRULY DOES LOVE YOU WITH ALL OF HIS AMAZINGLY BIG HEART!!!

ALL Things :)

Connection To Us

What does ALL THINGS look like in God’s eyes??

The ALL things that He is capable of may seem supernatural to us because it is!

Throughout history when God steps in and causes something to happen BEYOND human power it is called a “miracle”

Hundreds of miracles are recorded in The Bible.

GOD STILL MAKES MIRACLES HAPPEN EVEN TODAY!!!

I know for a FACT that OUR GOD is still willing and able to perform miracles in our lives!

I see evidence of HIS miracles in the past and I know that HE NEVER CHANGES!!!

James 1:17

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

There are HUNDREDS of miracles recorded in the Bible!

This documented do not even begin to define what our GOD is capable of!!!

Here is a partial list of God’s miracles:

I only added the first few here- click on the link to read more  🙂

http://christiananswers.net/dictionary/miracle.html

124 miracles recorded in the Bible (partial list)

  1. CREATION of the universe, including plants, animals and humans (Genesis 1-2)
  2. WORLDWIDE FLOOD EVENT—destruction of the entire world by a divine Flood and the miraculous preservation of 8 righteous people and representative land-dwelling, air-breathing animals in the Ark. (Gen. 7-8)
  3. CONFUSION OF LANGUAGES (tongues) at Babel (Gen. 11:1-9)—a world of one language instantly transformed into a world of many languages
  4. SINFUL CITIES DESTROYED—destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah (Gen. 19:24)
  5. SUPERNATURAL DEATH—Lot’s wife turned into a “pillar of salt” (Gen. 19:26)
  6. SUPERNATURAL CONCEPTION—Isaac conceived by very elderly Sarah and 100 year old Abraham at Gerar (Gen. 21:1)

ELDERLY NURSING MOTHER—Sarah was also able to naturally nurse baby Isaac. (Genesis 21:7)

I encourage you to visit the website above

– PRINT OUT THE LIST!!!  HANG IT ON YOUR WALL!!

These are just a FEW of the things that YOUR God could do for you!!!

God has the ability to do ALL THINGS- even those NOT listed!!!

****  In my own life I have SEEN God’s miracles and provisions:

Some of my answered prayers can be read here:

 http://biblestoriesfromtheheart.com/category/my-prayers-answered/

1. The Lord  healed my mom from a brain aneurism

(it completely disappeared before they operated on her!

2. God brought my husband to me in HIS perfect timing!

3.  The Lord also led me to begin writing this Bible study and now I have SO many wonderful people to study His WORD -which is SUCH a BLESSING to me!!!

4.  My Heavenly Father provided a wonderful house for us (much nicer than we should be able to afford, but HE put it EXACTLY in our price range!!

5.  HE has helped me find things when I misplace them (car keys to be exact!!!- I wrote a blog about it)

6.  MANY MORE!!!

And my list could go on and on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Knowing that God is capable of ALL OF THIS and MORE should give us such peace, but sadly most of us  still find ourselves worrying.  Our God DOES NOT want us to worry!!!  He is holding us in HIS hand!!!  We just must  TRUST Him to know what is best for us!!! We must tell Him what we need and give our worry over to Him. We must pray without ceasing!!!

1 Thessalonians 5:16-28

16 Rejoice evermore.

17 Pray without ceasing.

18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Our Heavenly Father will sometimes choose to answer your prayers in different ways than you are hoping.  When this happens you must have faith!   HE truly does know what is best for you.  Even when we know nothing else- you must know that He does  ALL THINGS  out of love!!! You  may go through hard times and you may lose people or things that you love, BUT you do not have to EVER be without LOVE, for GOD IS LOVE!!! And HE will never leave YOU or forsake YOU 🙂

This  verse is so wonderful, so encouraging, just ….so.  I love that we can apply it in many ways, but when we look at it in direct context it has the most power of all–it shows just how connected we are to our God, it shows just how much He loves us.

I use the Oxford Annotated New Revised Standard Version of the Bible.  I got it 20 years ago as the required version for a history of the Bible course and intro to the Bible in college.  And I have used it ever since.  I do reference other versions often, but for me, this version is easily understood.  When I opened it up to this verse to do the devotion, my wording was slightly different.  I loved the way it distinguished us as mortal and God as immortal and all powerful, omnipotent, and I used that version.   This piece has a lot of symbolism that you can read about in the tutorial.

This lesson I have lots of information for you!  And I made a couple videos as I went–lots of tips on watercolor this week and a peek at my tools, and I will talk you through most of the process.

HERE ARE THE LINKS TO ALL THREE VIDEOS ON YOU TUBE:

Let’s start:

  1.  Draw the feather/string of hearts down the side.  This doodle reminded me of stretching to heaven, flying up but also a string of just how much God loves us.  Start by drawing the line from the top of the paper down curving it slightly.
  2. Then you can create the hearts two ways:  just draw the hearts (top half of photo), or make the bumps down one side and then go back on the other side and draw the connecting and corresponding side (bottom half of photo).
  3. Add the chain down the right side of the paper.  I also liked this doodle for how it illustrates our connectedness to God.  This is just overlapping circles.
  4. Add the top and bottom lines connecting the feather and chain–draw two parallel lines, but add hash marks going all different angles–these symbolize our brokenness and sin.
  5. Write in the verse.  This lesson’s artwork fonts are just simple printing.
  6. Add the color with your favorite media.  For me the feather went red and then I added blue skies of the heavens and the grass of the world.
  7. Add extra doodle/scribbles for emphasis, shadows, and highlights.

But

With

God

But– used to introduce something contrasting with what has already been mentioned.

(the second half verse 26 is written as a contrast to the first half.  The author is stressing the difference between humans and God.  Humans are very limited, but our God is not.  With God ALL THINGS are possible!!!)

With– accompanying; in the company of

God-   1. the creator and ruler of the universe; the supreme being.  2. God is love.

John 4:8 New King James Version (NKJV)

8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

____________________________________________________________________

Connection To Us

As I reflected on the key words for today, I was immediately awestruck by the VAST amount of LOVE I discovered.

God, the creator  and ruler of the universe wants to be with me! He wants to spend every moment of my life both today and forever after right beside me! I never have to worry that God is too busy for me, or if He would rather be somewhere else….  because He truly desires to be with me each and every moment of my life! The creator and ruler of the universe has declared His LOVE for ME!  He is head over heels in love with me! He is waiting, His heart in His hand, to see if I will accept His LOVE!

NOW, the ball is in my court…. I have to decide if I want to be with Him or not.

I can either choose to live my life connected to the supreme being of the universe or I can choose to decline Him and His LOVE.

BUT, WITH, GOD

These three words sound like someone is having to convince me to choose God.

As I read them again, I feel so sad and guilty!

The ruler of the universe, the supreme being, the essence of LOVE has declared His deep desire to be with me for eternity and I am needing reasons why I should choose Him!!!

But With God….  ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!!!

Read that part again with an open mind and heart.

You have a very important decision to make…..

Are you going to choose to be WITH God?

He will never force Himself on anyone!

He has sent you a love note:  I deeply LOVE you.  Will you be WITH me- check the box yes or no….

He is waiting for you to return the note to Him!

What box will you check??

I challenge each one of us right now to pray over this question:

Don’t leave this computer screen without making your decision.

God so desires an answer.  He has been waiting your WHOLE LIFE to hear your answer….

Do you want to be WITH Him????

I pray that you will FEEL God’s immense LOVE for you today!  🙂

Three Words

Let’s reflect deeper on the three key words for today:  With , Men, and This

Looking at the definitions of these three words shows us just how limited both ourselves and our fellow “man” really are.

Facts to remember:

  1. No human has the power to erase even one of their sins.
  2. No one has the power to open the gates of Heaven by their own strength.

But- THIS is possible with God!!!

**********Big Takeaway************

Today, and from this day forward you must learn to REST in the fact that God’s greatest desire is to have a relationship WITH you.  He is not interested in you trying to prove your goodness to Him or to anyone else.  Salvation isn’t about your perfection- it is about your CONNECTION with your Heavenly Father!!!

Thank you Lord for YOUR EXTREME LOVE for us!!!
